Including the H2o

Hellooo everyonee:) Happy Sunday! I’d like to start off by saying thanks for the suggestions of what to cook over break- I’m always up for more, so if anyone knows any quick,easy, healthy recipes, send ’em my way!! πŸ™‚

I’ve decided that from now on, I’m going to try to include my water consumption each day. I’ve noticed the most changes in my body depend on whether or not i’m drinking too much, too little, or just the right amount of water. In fact, last year at the beginning of second semester, I was drinking over 2 GALLONS of water Every day– I would drink 32 oz. with breakfast, 32 oz. in my first class (1 hour long), more with the rest of my classes, more with lunch, more during practice, dinner, and after dinner! I remember gulping down water like crazy. Not to mention I had to PEE every 5 minutes, and woke up every night in the middle of the night just to go pee (alright, TMI, sorry guys!). I assumed that because I was sweating out water, and competing, I needed that much, when really, that was far from true. It turned out I was draining my electrolytes causing me to be more sluggish than I should have been. It also bloated me like crazy! I didn’t realize any of this until a friend of mine commented on the insane amounts of water I was drinking and suggested I cut down (haha- doesn’t sound like I’m talking about water…) I then decided I would start only drinking when I actually wanted water, or was thirsty (go figure!), bringing me down to about a Gallon a day. Immediately within 2 weeks, I noticed a difference: I started feeling so much more energized at practice and even lost about 10 lbs. of water weight!
I started jumping better as well, and noticed I was less hungry because (I assume) my stomach shrank because I wasn’t drinking SO much water! Right now, I’m trying to find a happy medium. Being at home, I was drinking less than I normally do at school, So I figure For Myself (and so I can look back on training)- I’m going to include my water consumption in my daily posts.
(disclaimer- listen to your own body- don’t let my water drankage affect you, I was just telling my story πŸ™‚ haha)

Anyways, thanks for letting me rant- ON TO YESTERDAY’S FOOOOOOD>>>>>>

BREAKFAST: Apple Pie Oats:)
TO START: I soaked apples in apple cinnamon tea for 10 minutes with some cinnamon for them to start cooking, and to soak in the flavor:

Apple Soakage

Apple Pie Oats with a side of sunshine πŸ™‚


Tied together with:
1/2 C. Oat bran
1 1/2 C. Apple Cinnamon Tea
Splash of Milk
1 Apple
Apple Pie Spice, Cinnamon, Vanilla
1 TBSP Pumpkin Butter (for sweetness:))
1/2 C. Yogurt
2 TBSP. Almond Butter
Wheatgerm/Flaxseed

This was Delicious!! I’m used to It was accompanied with 24oz. of Water.
I then did stuff around the suite, and sat on my booty playing on my computer for a while, ( and I drank 16oz of water)

I was planning on going for a little run just to move around and loosen my muscles so I ate this before:

I then got myself spandex-ed up:

Anyways, I went outside, nice and bundled and I ran for 3 minutes. Yup thats right, 3 minutes. IT was SOOO COLD! I forgot how bitter cold Upstate New York gets in January. Ha! Whatta joke. So I ran my butt right inside- much better (&warm) :). Have you ever started a run and then realized it was NOT what you wanted to be doing and ran back inside? I think I’ve done this about 3 times before… If you don’t wanna do it, give yo bod a rest! I then decided I would just stretch, shower, and call it a day:)

After all that- I sat down to have this yogurty goodness:
1/2 C. Fage Greek Yogurt
1/2 C. TJ’s banana cluster cereal
1/2 Banana
Cinnamon
PB/ Protein Powder mixture

Yogurt concoction all Mixed together with some Protein Cookie Dough

I then decided I would conquer the first few episodes of Jersey Shore. That was certainly successful. I got 3 down yesterday, woo! Good stuff… Ronnie’s a hottie:)

I noticed that as I was laying down on my bed staring at my computer, I got REALLY HUNGRY. This has happened before- but I don’t understand while laying down(only while watching TV) makes me so hungry! I sat up and I was fine, and the hunger went away, but it was so strange! Does anyone know why this happened/ Has this ever happened to anyone? Or am I just weird? Probably that… whatevvvvv.

Dinner was started with an appetizer of Roasted Brussel Sprouts and accompanied with 20oz of water

And I had a (overly cooked) grilled chicken salad with some brown rice

goodstufff.

And nighttime snacks included:

1/2 C. attempted-to-be-but-not-so-frozen Fage with 1/2 banana, a little almond butter


Finished off a bag of Pretzel thins along with some Hummus


and 18 oz. of water thru the night.

So Water Total:
24+16+16+16+20+8+10= 110 oz. of water (which is a little less than a gallon, not including water in the tea this morning, or liquid in food- and no workout)… Reasonable.

Anywhoo- I’m off to go watch the Basketball team hopefully win :). Have a great day everybody!

  1. I totally agree that the close up shot of the banana and the cinnamon is definitely food porn! haha!

    Good for you for listening to your body and not running when you didn’t want to. I am SO bad about listening to my body! I am working on it though….

    crazy story about your water intake!! you’re lucky that your electrolytes didn’t get too messed up, esp with all the exercise you get, it can be really dangerous to waterload (which i’m sure you know now) hope you have fun at the bball game!

    haha i have the complete opposite problem as you! i always need to remind myself to keep drinking water.. i definitely don’t get enough!

    and i totally agree about taking a rest.. it’s not that cold outside here today but i am pretty much forcing myself to stay inside.. i know my body needs a break with how sore i’ve been!

  8. I drink a lot of water now but probably more like a gallon to 1 1/2 gallons a day.. I used to never drink any water! haha.

    And that is such a good idea to soak your apples first! I’m going to try that for sure!

    And my hunger is weird too! I get more hungry when I sit on my butt all day than when I’m active. LOL

  10. That EXACT thing happened to me today went for a run, froze my face off, came in after 13 minutes. People weren’t meant to run in 12 degree weather. πŸ˜› I also drink a lot of water, but I take salt tablets to keep it all in. My doctor got them for me, so maybe if you’re having water (and electrolyte) retention problems, you should speak to yours about them. Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

I call the “run for three minutes, turn and go back” the WALK OF SHAME… I went through serious serious issues with running a few months ago… It’s hard to find meaning post collegiately …I kept trying everyday to get out, and everyday was the same… run 10 minutes hoping to loosen up, and then stop mid stride and walk run in tears all the way home…

    Finally I told my coach I needed a break, and I took two weeks off where I did NOTHING! (no abs, no lifting,no XT… NOTHING), and two months off from contact with him, so I set my own schedule for a while… I set the resolution to run at least 10 minutes a day… (instead of the usual “PR in 7 events, make back all the money that I spend on races” goal)… so that I’d have less pressure to run fast and hard… I realized I needed structure, and I’m back with my coach and have been golden ever since.

    My body was telling me for a year to take a break, and I never did! Definitely listen to your body! That applies for the serious amounts of water drinking too! Have you ever tried “Juicing” haha (not PED’s!) I sometimes juice my fruit. It hydrates, tons of nutrients, and gives you TONS of energy!

    • Most definitely the walk of shame! hahah and wow that sounds like pretty intense! Your body definitely needed a nice long break after college… 2 weeks of nothing was probably a really good thing for you!
      And when the goal is PRing in 7 events, etc… its so hard to get motivated bc you have soo much to live up to. I’m happy you are back with your coach and everything is going well now!

      And haha no I haven’t tried “juicing”- I might have to look into it, I LOVE having tons of energy, esp. at practice!

  13. ps i meant peeing all day if i had that much water too! (that you used to have) i did that when i was running a LOT..and then i got soo lethargic because i was draining my electrolytes!

  14. Wow 2 gallons! That’s a tonne of water!!!!!!! I have such a teensy bladder that usually within four hours of my morning coffee, I literally need a bathroom every five minutes…it’s sooo annoying and nothing works to prevent (even though I eat breakfast while I drink my coffee to try and soak it up.)
    That spandex is lookin supacute…and those cinnabananas…most definitely food porn πŸ˜‰

  15. I drank SO MUCH water/tea/coffee back when I well, you know, and I literally peed in my dorm, walked to class, peed before class, peed during class, peed after class, peed when I got back to my dorm room. It was out of control. I agree–you can have too much of a good thing!

  16. I used to drink tea like crazy. I was freezing, so I drank hot tea CONSTANTLY, and I was always urging to pee during classes. It was HORRIBLe, and it made me SO lethargic, and I felt enervated the whole time! So once again, there IS such a thing as too much of a good thing!

    so interesting that you monitor your water content! i, too, drink a lot of water. when i had blood drawn the other day, the nurse said to me: i can see that you drink a lot of water. sometimes i drink too much. i might try drinking when i’m thirsty as well and maybe drinking some decaf herbal tea to keep my electrolytes in balance. great post!
