The Best Sampling Day in COSTCO History

Good Evening, Bloggies!
Today was a wonderful day filled with non-stop-doing-stuff-ness (which i love).

It alll started when I woke up(clearly) this morning, and enjoyed a Thomas’s Whole Wheat English Muffin with Jelly as my pre-workout fuel.

I then went to go do my workout consisting of the usual 1/2 hour long warm-up (jog-skip followed by drills, plyos etc), then did a workout with my high school team:
2x 80m sprints (75%)
2x 80m sprints (100%)
2x 80m sprints (75%)
2x 80m sprints (100%)
Skipped back in between each
–>Not bad at all… I then did some box jumps for “fun” plyometric training
After all this, I ate a Clif Honey Graham Z-bar…Not too bad, and I really enjoyed it as a pre-lifting snack.

Not too bad- kind of tasted like the outside of a Nutrigrain bar, minus the fruity filling...if that makes sense.

This was followed by lifting (usually don’t do it 2 days in a row, but the weight room won’t be open tomorrow, So I improvise:)) Which included front squats, incline bench press, straight leg dead lifts, arm raises with free weights, lower back extension with weight, and a couple more that I can’t think of right now… It was a good workout but my hamstrings are a little sore.
When I got home, I had a wonderful shake (I’ve taken pictures of them before: 1 cup frozen mixed berries, milk, yogurt, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder)
I then took a shower and got myself pumped for…

Gingerbread-Pumpkin Oat Bran! ( 1/2 cup oat bran, 1/2 cup pumpkin, ~1 Tbsp TJ’s Pumpkin Butter, 1 cup Celestial gingerbread tea, cinnamon, vanilla, 1 tbsp each-flaxseed and wheatgerm, and 2 TBSP Peanut Butter)… I realize there’s a lot in here, but the combo of everything was so great, especially because I haven’t had Oat bran for a while.


I then played a little Wii Bowling With my dad and broskii (I came in second, but my brother’s a champ so I wasn’t too distraught) I blogged around a bit.

And then me, my mom, and dad went to COSTCO! :)… it’s weird I get so excited for a Bulk-Everything store, but let’s face it, Costco=The shizz*… SO note for the future: The day before New Year’s Eve is the Best Day you can ever go to Costco, There were legit 4 samples every isle…heavennnn! I’m ridiculous, I know… Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my camera to Costco because if I whipped that bad boy out to take pictures of my samples, I would probably get really weird looks…So instead, I secretly snapped pictures with my phone for y’all to enjoy:)

After this, I went home and smiled at my Costco Purchases:

Including Maranatha Almond Butter (26oz was cheaper than the normal 16oz of this I get!), 12 cute little INDIVIDUAL containers of Sabra Hummus, Individual Microwavable packets of Edamame, Naners,& organic mixed greens… hmmm, success.

Still hungry of course, I cracked open an individual hummus pack (oh so convenient), with carrots..duh.

Finished 1/2 the bag of carrots and 1/2 the pack of hummus

I then went New Years Eve Party Shopping for decorations with my friends Mary and Kristina for our fiesta tomorrow… Does anyone know where you can get 2010 glasses? Party city was all sold out… fail 😦

And I didn’t have dinner with the fam because I went to Chili’s with a few different friends… this place is addictive, I swear. We go here all the time, I guess it’s a home-from-school tradition because we came here all the time in high school. I enjoyed the following:

1/2 QUESADILLA EXPLOSION SALAD! (minus the cheesy thingys)

+ me picking off other people’s plates because that’s just what I do best:)… I was so perfectly content after this, not hungry, not too full, and we needed to go for the necessary dessert: The Chocolate Molten Cake, (Me and my 3 friends shared, so I had about 1/4 i guess)

2 for 1

Hellllllo… This post is gonna be a mix-up of foods from today and yesterday, hopefully I don’t confuse myself!

Well both today and yesterday started with a workout, so I had a peice of whole wheat bread beforehand to get something in my stomach. Yesterday, I went outside and ran and did my track warm-up on the outdoor track in 20-something degree weather. Dumb idea, Michelle. Dumb. And today, I attempted to start off outside, but it was sososososo cold, I ran for 4 minutes and couldn’t take it anymore (I’m sucha wimp!) So I went in my nice, warm house and just sweat it out on the exercise bike and did my lift. The post-workout meal after both days was a shake. Yesterday’s was accompanied with a Thomas’s whole wheat bagel (I highly recommend these things- they are so soft, delicious, and No HFCS!!)

Pumpkin Oats in a Jarrrrrr

Today, I had just enough almond butter left to have Oats in a jar (SUCCESS!), accompanied with cinnamon and the other 1/2 banananana:)

(wow this is kinda difficult doing 2 days, NOTE TO SELF: don’t do this again) hehe…
Other food for the two days included the following:

I swear vanilla Chobani is the best yogurt I’ve ever had. I miss it at school because they don’t have this brand, but the texture beats all others, I don’t really stray from the vanilla or plain though… I had the pomegranate one once, which was really interesting because it has little pomegranate seeds in it (Try it if you have a chance, it’s an experience!) but it was a little too sweet for me.

my loveeee for eggs grows while I’m at school because they only have cartonized ones, so I get as many in at home while i can (and cholesterol? ehh, I eat enough oatmeal it should even out:))

I swear these didn’t look like this in real life, the flash on my camera throws it off i guess!…sautéed with olive oil, garlic, salt n’ peppa. Not too shabby!

These are Snackface-Inspired Cheetahs… They weren’t as browned and as delicious looking as they appeared on Kailey’s page (I’m not that patient:/), but they were super yummy! Girl, you know what you’re doing! I topped mine with a little cinnamon:)

My best friend Kristina got me this WONDERFUL Creation (of which I am wearing right now) as a Christmas Gift. I love how I can type and am still blanketed. It’s great, like a backwards bath robe. My mom said I looked like a person on top of a cake. I’m not sure exactly what that means,but I’ll take it.

I Made Hummus!

Hello! I have exciting news… I made hummus today! woo!! (Great accomplishment, but back to that later)

I woke up this morning and lately I haven’t really been the mood for a large bowl of oatmeal (weird.) Soo I made myself an omelet, but while making it, my mom and aunt said they wanted some, so I added more eggs and whites to it, and there just weren’t enough potatoes and onions anymore to call it a meal

and by then I was in the mood for a decent size bowl of oats, and had this:

1/2 Cup Oats, 1 cup milk, and 1/2 a banana, with the leftover PB in the jar(like 1/2 Tbsp)… Suprisingly really good, I’m used to adding 10000 things in my oats,but keeping it simple was nice and the banana taste was very good

After this, me and the fam went to church, and the priest talked about the importance of TIME and Family, all very true, it made me think about how important it is to spend time with my parents while I’m home… So I’ve decided not to go back to school AS early as I was going to for Track, and I figured I can improvise with my workouts here:) woo!

It was a BEAUTIFUL day out, like amazingly gorgeous and warm(ish), and I needed to take advantage… So after church, I went to a nearby park lake and went for a nice relaxing 3 mile run (woo! another accomplishment for me because as a jumper, we barely run and i truly enjoy a nice run every once in a while). My iPod died 1 1/2 songs in, but it was alllll gooood (besides the fact I had to run carrying it), because I was able to enjoy the sun on the water and all the people walking/biking/jogging around the lake and it really made me happy :).

On the way back, I stopped at the produce market and got the following:

Lotsa Cheap Produce= GREATNESS.

3 Cucumbers
3 Grapefruits
2 Apples
2 Peppers
Brussel Sprouts (Shout out to Dana!) hehe
1 lb. bag of Carrots
Pack of Mushrooms


All Less than $7… I’d say that was pretty successful, at least I was excited:)

So After this, I went home and had the other 1/2 of my banana mushed up in my plain Chobani Greek Yogurt :), followed by a Whole Wheat English Muffin(I’m clearly obsessed) with a little almond butterrr.

Delish Combo


I showered, and was gonna go to the store to pick up some hummus, and then my mom was like “HEY, I have Chickpeas, why dontcha just make it?!” BRILLIANT idea. Really. Especially because I have my brand new Magic-Bullet Impersonator to make it with sooo thats obv what I did:)

Before... Garbanzo-y amazingness

(I used the recipe here)
1 Can Chickpeas
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
1/2 A lemon of Juice
1 tsp. Cumin
a little garlic powder, salt, and pepper

After. Hummus-y Goodness

Ta-daaaaa! Granted, we didn’t have Tahini in the house, but it still tasted so so so good:)… and The Cumin reminded me of the Indian Chickpea Dish from Wegman’s… Next time I’m adding a little more of this stuff:)

I dipped many, many carrots, a whole cucumber, and some pretzels to enjoy this great concoction.

I ended up going to the store later on anyways, picking up a few things (Thomas’s whole wheat bagels, Peanut Butter, and flat pretzel chips (will be featured later))

And then since i ate SO MUCH hummus, I was only kinda hungry so I had this for din-din:

Wow,I’m just realizing the large quantity of beans I’ve consumed today…dang.
After, this I had an apple, but again, ate it and couldn’t take a pic (…But use your imagination)

I then went out with my bff since 3rd grade Kristina:), and we drove around everywhere and talked for about 2 hours and ended up at Friendly’s where we got hit on by the creepy waiter (Get us some!…NOT.) He legit sat down next to me for 5 minutes and had a conversation, but anyways I got this…

2 scoops of Fat-Free Raspberry Frozen Yogurt with Oreo pieces (I ended up taking off the whipped cream and cherry… I’m a party pooper, I know.) But it was Raspgasmic<– wow. i love making up my own words. The best part about this was that a 2 scoop, 1 topping is called a "happy ending" so I couldn't help but giggle when I ordered it. I'm so mature.

When I got home, I was hungry…again. I didn't really have a huge meal today, so I guess it makes sense. SOo, I whipped out the Pretzel Flat things I got earlier and dipped 'em in hummus

and then 1/2 a grapefruit

Just 'cuz

…So i literally ate over 1/2 the Hummus I made tonight. No Bigs. 🙂
But if anyone has suggestions for making hummus, pleaseee let me know, I have a feeling this is going to be a more regular occurrence:)

Sleepy Day:)

Helllo:) I hope everyone had a wonderfullll Christmas! I know I did. I’m not gonna show you everything I got because truthfully, I don’t feel like uploading all of the pictures hehe… but I did get these:

Overall, Christmas was lovely and it was great because my whole family was in

Now for Todays (12/26, i know its late but w.e) Day of fooood
Well I had a late night last night and didn’t fall asleep until 3 and woke up at 745 to practice (High school practice was at 830 and i needed to lift, totally a horrible idea the day after Christmas, but It definitely woke me up!) Before practice, I ate this:

I did my workout which consisted of running, my warm up, and countless jumping drills. Later followed by lifting, all for about 2 hours. And i was EXHAUSTED by the time it was over.

I came home and concocted a shake in my brand new Magic-Bullet impersonator:

This shake consisted of ice, 1/2 banana, frozen berries, milk, yogurt, a little peanut butter, flaxseed, wheatgerm,& 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

simply scrumptious

It was followed by 1/2 cup oatmeal with milk and the other 1/2 of the banana cooked in– perfectly cooked (and it didn’t overflow into the microwave either! wooo!)

After this, I took a shower, and played around on my computer for a little bit and realized HOW FREAKIN’ TIRED I WAS!… my <5 hours of sleep had gotten to me and sooo i decided to nap (Note: I veryyy rarely take naps but this was more than necessary)… I ended up sleeping for like 3 hours or so, it was wonderful (but now at 1:30am I am wide awake and I don't know what I am going to do with myself!)

After waking up, I helped my mom clean out the refrigerator (isn't that nice of me!?) and Had "lunch" at 4:30- leftover fish, potatoes, and 1/2 a bag of Baby Carrots: I seriously have a problem. And sorry no pics, I was scavenging for food.

I was still really hungry after this, so dinner 2 hours later was perfect… (also no pics)
My aunt made HOMEMADE Refried Beans… AMAZING. seriously. I need to learn how to make these. So I had a whole wheat tortilla con beans y salsa, & un fajita de pollo… Muy Bueno! (Look at me speaking Spanish- Dana are you proud!?)

Afterward, I went to my friend’s house and we watched absolutely horrible movies that nobody has ever heard of before…ever. One was called Carmen– It was a “Hip Hopera” (i LOLed a little), Starring Beyonce- she really needs to stick with being a Single Lady and get out of Made-For-TV-Movies (just a suggestion), wow I’m awful. BUT, the next one was worse, and pretty creepy called Red Riding Hood. I wouldn’t recommend either of them… At least we got good laughs out of both.
And PS- That Single Ladies Video Reminded me of THIS and my love for GLEE:), Can’t wait for next season!

Well I am off to figure out what I can do to put me to sleep so my sleep schedule isn’t completely screwed up… Good night!

Merry Christmas!! &First FOOD Post

Merry Christmas!!!
Ahh first post with food (from the 23rd) woo! Let’s see… I started off the day with Berry Oats with Trader Joe’s Almond Butter and some yummy Gingerbread tea🙂

Berry Oats with Almond Butter

3/4 cup oats, 1 1/2 cups milk, 3/4 cup frozen berries, ~1tsp. honey, a little plain yogurt, vanilla, and ~2 Tbsp. almond butter, ~1 Tbsp. each of Flaxseed and Wheat Germ

Thennn I cleaned my room and did a few other things around the house and had this about 2 hours later:

Small Plate with a Granny Smith apple, Baby Carrots, and Almonds

(…about triple the amount of shown almonds) This apple was weird, it was supposed to be a granny smith but tasted NOTHING like one, not bad, but not what I was expecting.

Immediately followed by this:


It’s a Thomas’s Whole Wheat TOASTED Bagel with a plain yogurt(just a little!) and cinnamon sugar. Probably one of my favorite things ever:)

After this, I went to go do my workout at the local community college

& I packed these with me:

Banana and Cool Mint Chocolate Clif Bar

6 min. jog/skip
~20 min. warmup
2(3x200m) @ 34sec, 1.15′ rest (between each) /3′ rest (in between sets)
5 min. jog/skip cooldown

*I miss running with the team though, it’s so much easier to pace myself

THEN, I drove over to my high school (I ate a banana on the way) to go lift weights for about an hour, then did ABs and stretched, and Afterward, I had the Clif Bar

I came home, showered, snacked on a sliced up cucumber

While smelled the wonderful aroma of one of my most beloved home cooked meals that my dad makes: Pea Soup:) sooo delicious, I had a nice big bowl…

Okay, it doesn't LOOK that amazing, but believe me, it is:)

Besides peas, he infuses potatoes into it, and chops up carrots, and little bits of ham (sorry vegans!:/)
Followed by this…

Covered in pepper... totally fine.

Which I dipped into the salad… very yummy!

THEN… My friend Erin and my cousin(one of my best friends), Catie came over and we made a Gingerbread House:) Well, we didn’t exactly make it, my dad set it up with this really easy instructional kit, and we just decorated, but whatev, ’tis the season!

Erin and I sipped on some Celestial Gingerbread tea (sensing a theme here?)… I lovee the seasonal teas (the Candy Cane Lane is my fav- I’ve been drinking it since October:))

PS- Please ignore my “Sweatpants, Hair tie,Chillin’ with no makeup on” Look I have going here while my friends look cute, I was in a sweatshirty mood(as always…), btw i love that quote for some reason so if I use it again, please don’t hold it against me.

While I had the tea, I also enjoyed some pumpkin yogurt:

~1 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup pumpkin
TJ’s Pumpkin Butter
Topped with Oats

We then continued in the Gingerbread Spirit creating Gingerbread Men based off characters from The Jersey Shore (incorporating pop culture into our everyday lives!)

Okay, I think that’s all. Woo! First food post done (It was Christmas Eve when i started it earlier today, but now its Christmas yayyayay!)

First Post: The Introduction

First Post! But I have no idea what to write! I know at the moment the only person reading this right now is my friend Dana(hi Dana!), who’s gonna help me try to spread the word about “Snacks&Field”…(punny, eh?). I promise I’m not always this corny:). Basically, I’m a competitive Track & Field athlete (Triple/Long jumper) in college and I realize how important fueling my body is for my sport (and all sports for that matter!). Soooo… I started this blog so I can track my progress and see how my body reacts to workouts depending on what I eat, sort of like a self-learning experience. I’ve been reading other blogs and have learned a lot so I hope that by learning about my own body, others can learn from my fueling/ give me advice/tips about what they have learned (COMPLETELY open to suggestions!) Oh, and if anyone has any blogging tips I will be FOREVER GRATEFUL!
